Hi I’m Andrew, a professional travel and landscape photographer from Michigan, USA. In 2015, my wife and I packed our bags and traded the Great Lakes for the Great Arctic North of Finland. For the two years we lived in Finland we traveled Europe, and I began documenting our adventures. What started as a way for me to share photos with family and friends has turned into a professional passion. For me, photography is all about the challenge of capturing those epic moments in time and space: where the light is perfect, the composition is just right, and the subject pulls you into the frame. Now, I am based in Auckland and enjoy leading photography workshops, photographing Aotearoa New Zealand, and traveling in the Pacific. I do not think I will ever stop exporing. There are just too many amazing landscapes left to discover.
Have you wanted to create your own iconic photo of the Auckland city skyline? Join me for a three hour photography workshop around Auckland and capture several angles of the city's skyline at sunset, blue hour, and after dark. All skill levels are welcome! Photography is my business, but it is also my passion. I'd like to share my knowledge of photography, different techniques, and a few of my favorite locations.
During the tour, here is what you can expect ... Once everyone arrives at the designated meeting point, I give a brief introduction and assess everyone's skill level. After that, we walk 20-25 minutes to explore several locations in Auckland where you can get a great view of the city lights. But don't worry, there will be opportunities to photograph as we walk between locations. At each site, I will work with you one-on-one to create some amazing shots of the city.
What you will learn (or improve on):
1. Shooting in manual mode, including: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO
2. Framing a composition
3. Night photography
4. Use of neutral density filters
5. Long exposure photography
6. Talk about post processing techniques
Anyone 18 years or older may participate in the workshop. The only other requirements are a keen interest in photography and exploring Auckland. I will tailor the evening based on guests' skill level and interests. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
1: Dress for the weather (it can be cold after the sunset)
2. Comfortable shoes for walking
3. DSLR or mirrorless camera capable of shooting in manual mode
4. Steady tripod (if needed, I have one extra I can lend for the workshop)
5. Shutter release or camera with a built in self timer
6. Neutral density or polarizer filters (OPTIONAL)
7. Any lenses you may have
